About

Born and raised in Ypsilanti, Michigan, Azya Lashelle has always had a strong appreciation for art and creation. It was at a young age that Lashelle realized that through art she could speak about the realities that she often found hard to voice. In 2019, she graduated from Michigan State University with a BFA in Oil painting. However, after a few photography classes, she would put down the brush in exchange for the camera. In 2023, she graduated from Georgia State University, with an MFA in Photography. She has exhibited work in a variety of places such as the Fort Wayne Museum of Art and the Southeast Museum of Photography. It is with great passion that Lashelle, continues to create work from the perspective of a Black Queer Woman, and how these identities impact the way she navigates the world around her.
